1993 ls 400 186k
Greetings from Georgia
I was glad to see this forums after I bought this LS 400 last week for $2200. Last owner had starter and radiator replaced recently, said cost $1200 for both with parts and labor. Apparently replacing the starter is an 8 hour job.
So far
I bought 2 new tires and outer right tie rod end with 4 wheel alignment ($300). I need to get a tuneup (as a starting point). It runs slightly rough at idle with a rich exhaust smell (around town and highway it runs OK , has power and gets about 21MPG. Drives and handles really well with much comfort and excellent steering. Check engine light is not working (got in touch with LexPert Jim to quote me on a cluster repair). I have no problem with blinking or cold day outage of the cluster, it always works just tacho and speedometer needles have dim tips and the check engine light does not come on (so I don't know if ECU has any fault codes). Even with just the ignition on without starting up, the check engine light is not lit. I work crazy hours at KIA plant here in West Point GA and plan to use a local shop that works on Lexus and other foreign brands to troubleshoot the rough idle before it get worse. While they are at it, they can check the timing belt as I have minimal service history on this vehicle and it is at 186K. Should I have the valve lash adjusted also? Anyway, I have a lot of work to search this forum for clues to fixing my problems.
Best regards, Fred
