Default shorted my cigarette lighter?? please help!!

I plugged my phone charger into the main cigarette lighter, near the shift ****, and the radio shut off by itself. It came back on a few seconds later, but now the lighter doesn't work. I know this because when I plugged the phone charger into the lighter in the center console, it works. I'm guessing I shorted out a fuse or sometihng of that nature. Can anyone provide any assistance?

Sounds like a fuse.. check the kick panel fuse access . (Will have diagrams on the cover so you don't have to pull them all )

Is your radio factory or aftermarket? If factory, go ahead and replace the fuse. If your radio is aftermarket or the fuse burns out fast again, you have a short somewhere in that neighborhood...

thanks! i opened up the fuse box and didin't find anything that said something about the cigarette lighter. the closest thing i found was a fuse labeled "RADIO 1." if it helps, it's a 1999 model.

Also check the fuse on the charger, that could simply be out too.

Not real sure how this could be if the charger works on a different outlet. Care to enumerate?

Anyhow.. The lighter is linked to a fuse, they all are. If you cannot find a labled fuse, just test them all with a standard tester, you will ultimately find one that is blown. Never discount the engine compartment for a fuse check as well. Refer to the owners manual for some locations if you are confused.
