Why did Lexus build such a Dependable car?
First off, don't get me wrong I love my LS4, but why are they so dependable? My dad buys his cars brand new and keeps them until they die. His first brand new car was a 1987 Mazda B2200 which was my car in High School and the only reason why we don't have it anymore is because it was flooded in 2005 Katrina. He bought the LS4 brand new in 1992 and its been my car since the truck was flooded and he bought a Honda Pilot. For being 16 years old with 200k+ miles the LS4 is still strong and averages 23mpg. I've asked for a new IS350, but he tells me to wait till the LS gives out since the resale value isn't great. Knock on wood the LS is unbreakable; Regular Oil changes, tires, and basic maintenance keeps this thing running. And I'm thinking how much longer must I wait... But all and all I guess this is a good thing.

How much longer must you wait? Better go get a couple thousand Snickers bars cause you are gonna wait a loooooooong time before that thing gives up.

Its crossed my mind, but "mod-money" comes out my own pocket. With the money I'm saving its going to go towards my new car whenever I get it.

Absolutely hilarious!
To the OP: -- That is a good question,.. it was their goal right? It is the 'idealistic' goal of any car manufacturer, but they don't want them too reliable, that'd be a shame.
I think on the LS Lexus just did more things right than wrong, simple as that. They had lady luck on their team.
It just so happened to be the flagship vehicle to start the Lexus program, that doesn't hurt things.
For your dilemma, either way I don't think your hurting. Think of it this way. You get the new IS350 now, or even last year.. in a few years its far from new. Right now you've got a really nice car, and another brand new one just waiting on you.

Great Post!!!
I say keep the car and respect it. Your dad will see that you take care of it and will thing that your even more responsible for a new car.
The reason your dad said youll get a new car if you get a scholarship... guess where that money is coming from
