had to trade in the LS

In all fairness, my girlfriend drives a Cavalier (2002) and she's clocked 85,000 miles without anything replaced but an alternator, oil and brake pads. I do enjoy driving her car, it revs like a sonuva***** and is fairly sporty, puts my LS to shame in the zippiness department.
It's likely not going to make it 400,000 miles, but let's not make it out to be something it isn't.

the lemon factor hurts...
my roommate drives a maserati quattroporte sport gt, but the LS has plenty of benefits, namely reliability.
glad you're enjoying the new ride, you prob get better gas mileage too.

Someone I know has a '99 LS400 with about 130k mi. on it. "That's nothing" I hear you say. Well, the struts are shot on it, maybe the engine mounts too, and it has various peculiarities now he's got to get fixed. The windshield has a crack too. These aren't Lexus' fault - all cars have bits wear out. But this person's looking at 3k or more to get it right again.
So Tallman went from a 15 yr old car to one that's 8 years old. Definitely won't be as luxurious, but cost of ownership is likely to be MUCH MUCH less.

Well its not the non-luxurious part.. its a cavalier. Kinda.. "nuff said" kinda thing.
Like I said, why not get an import rather than a cavi, pretty weird choice. At least a civic, accord, camry, rolla will have good resale value with proven reliability and longevity.
Its just too odd for me to comprehend why a former lexus owner would get a cavi.

We should be supportive of his decision to get a youger car. The most reliable car in the world is only as reliable as YOUR experience with it.
Mocking him for leaving Lexus only makes us look 10 times worse. Its just a car (plastic, metal and glass), not a religion.
He is happy with his new car. Let it be...

Guys, I dont think we need to drag this guy through the mud for selling his LS. You have to admit, if you buy one that hasn't been taken care of, they are a nightmare to keep on the road as far as costs are concerned.
Im sure he'd love to buy a new LS, but that isn't always an option. While the LS is reliable, age coupled with negligible maintenance is a destructive combo, no matter how well the car is built. I respect your decision, and hope that in the near future, you will be able to find a clean LS you can enjoy.
Please dont be a stranger, and hope to see you around (post pics of the new ride).
I wish you better luck with your new car

We're just givin him a hardtime because of the cavalier, in all seriousness most if not all of us understand finding a car to fit ones lifestyle/budget. In the future things may change, but for now an unmaintained LS was not for him. Till then enjoy the cavalier (as best you can) and lets hope for no more major repairs.

It's about money and sooner or later some of you might be thinking about a back up small car to help keep down your gas expenses when it hits $5.00 to $6.00 a gallon which looks possible within a year. There was an article on the news saying OIL COULD GO TO $200.00 A BARREL which could mean gas could hit $7.00 a gallon AND UP. I paid $5.10 a gallon of gas coming from San Jose to Southern California on the 5 freeway half way down the state cost was almost a $100.00 to fill up and they say it will just keeping going up.

i wont be surprised about gas prices going up. its never ending process until maybe when the war ends or something. but i will keep my LS still and just have a little corolla or something to putt around hehe. So far i just drive my car to school. than use my moms car to go to work. if i know i have extra money to spend. i will cruise around in my car. other than that 80% of the time my LS stays in the garage. which is why i only rack up 3k - 5k miles a year.

Bad Idea
I'll probably post this quote as often as anyone would read your story
"You are what you drive"
Sorry pal, but a Chevy Cavalier. That is just plain stupidity

Since you drive 95 LS, you must be worth about 4K.....watch out Donald Trump!
