Hey puredrifter steveski how do you cut the bumper right without having to paint it.I have a 00 ls 400 and would like to install just a nice set of chrome tips.

mark CAREFULLY using a permanent marker, unscrew the metal strip at both edges (if your tip is wide like mine was), cut off the excess metal bit using your preferred method, tape off the area surrounding the marked cut-out, and go at it with either a die-grinder or a dremel with (a few...) cut off wheels (larger ones are easier at first). then smooth it out using a combination of sanding and small cutoff wheels.

oh, and try to cut AROUND the tabs (you'll see what i mean) unless you want to have some annoying flopping around.

Pure covered it pretty well. I did not have to paint mine initially until a valet service damaged my bumper. In the end it was actually replainted

I like the cut outs - depends on your taste. It changed the look of my car.

I recently saw a second gen with 3" tips that slanted (without cutting the bumper). It looked like he slid them over the OEM muffelr tips - whatever he did it looked very cool...wish I had my camera with me.

Hey steveski where in texas are you I would prefer not to cut the bumper but it seems difficult to slide the tips on the existing tailpipe without cutting it

Thats exactly what I did with my tips! I do sheetmetal for a living so I just rolled a 12 inch long piece of stainless steel and spot welded it to a 3 inch round. I then took off the mounting bracket for the muffler, (3 bolts), and used 5 washers on each bolt to force the muffler to hang about an inch lower than stock. At this time I was able to slide on the stainless tips all the way to the back face of the muffler. They are not slanted at all, perfectly horizontal with the body of the car.

I am in Houston - I hear you on having to cut the OEM tips - can't say that the guy I saw didn't just slide the tip over or cut it/ Makes sense to cut it or possibly lower the muffler like 1995ls400 says. The guy I saw had tips that slanted down so it makes me think he simply slid them over the OEM tip - regardless what he did they did look good though.

just saved this thread in my bookmarks, beautiful LS... I do agree that it would be even better if the cans weren't so prominent or visible, but still one of the nicest I've seen.

Had them raised up flush to the bumper the other day. I took these pictures before my appt. cause the weather up here in WA sucks, and I didn't know when It was going to be nice again.

So now they don't look so "detatched" or "visible". I'll have more pics up soon.
