Crutchfield shows my 99 LS as "Euro-Din"...??
Anyone have some suggestions for medium range price (alpine, kenwood) HUs?
All I care about is good sound and aux input for mp3.

beatsonic makes a harness but its $300ish, you're better off wiring it yourself.

they make a dash kit that is a PERFECT match for the LS, and you can get it separate from the rest of the kit for ~$100 or less.

I would say yes but also no, you would need to change the shape of the face plate (Just grind it down a few mil each side) due to the taper of the dash the lower u move it the less room there is for it to fit. Harness should be long enough, even if its not, not that hard to make it longer.

I have the avic d3 in my car with ipod through the glove box and bluetooth and it works very well, i have not had a problem with it yet. Just get the double din kit from metra and it fits like factory. The one thing i could not find was a harness and no one makes one you might have to get a different sub with an amp like i did.

So the 98-00 can take a double din? That sounds like a dumb question but all the online sites I go to show dd as not fitting or "modified fit"...

thanks

because while there is physically room for a double din...there is no dash kit, the OEM stereo is larger than double-din.

So most people in the 98-00 run a 1 din? I can't seem to find pics of people's setup in the last gen LS400. I'd like do your aux-in hack PD but i'm afraid i'd botch the job.

I'd like to have a better idea what I'm looking for before I got to a stereo shop so I can be informed and not condescended to.

not too many people have headunits in the 2.5gen, and the only reason you'd need to worry about the headunit if you're doing my aux.in mod is if you have a nakamichi system, otherwise you have to intercept either behind the cd changer or at the amp under the passenger seat.

metra makes a dash kit for 95-00.

http://documents.victorytechnologies...duct/11631.pdf

the instructions show pictures of it being installed into a 95-97. the climate control area is slightly different in the 98+, but the bottom radio section should be the same.

i would definitely recommend going with an aftermarket radio. after i installed mine, the car just felt so much more updated and allowed for me to easily install a sub and amp as well as tune the sound.

Cool...yeah I think I want a new headunit altogether...it sounds a little dated and I'd like a aux-in on the front, as well as new sub/speakers possibly. Nothing huge, just better sound and zune integration.

Do you have any pics? What unit was it; was it a double-din? Thanks for any info, I'd like to take my car in for upgrades this later this week...sounds like I may need to order the metra before I go to the shop if I don't want them to fab a cheap one or tell me they don't make one
