Also, I was surprised that the MSRP for a 2008 LS is only a little more than the MSRP of my 1999. So there must be some serious cost cutting, or the margins were fatter in 1999. I hope this is not the start of the mistake Mercedes made in the middle 90's when the bean counters took over and not the engineers. My dad's 1989 560 SL is built like a sherman tank. Almost 20 years and no creaks or squeaks, and it's a convertible!
I hope Lexus does not loose it's way. Time will tell how long my 99 lives, but I intend to keep it a loooong time. I suspect my car will have a longer life than a new LS.
what? the MSRP for a BASE LS460 is $62,900.

thats a decent increase over the base msrp of a 99LS400 which was $54,100

I did not buy it new, but still have the window sticker, $57,000.00 Which included the way overpriced $5000.00 nav. system. Since the new LS has one too, you are looking at, in todays $$, A 2008 being cheaper, a lot cheaper. There is no way this can be without huge cost cutting.

ur forgetting that right now the dollar is weak, during the mid to late 90s the dollar was strong and the yen was weak, so in essence the 99 was slightly overpriced and currently the 08/09 are slightly underpriced...

The only reason the Nav package was 5 grand was because it included HIDs. In 98 the Nav was available which was cutting edge in america along with the HIDS. Now Nissan, Ford and hell even KIA have navigation options available.

im also a fan of the new es350 styling. in the past it was very "camryish" and kind of underpowered and conservative looking.

the new styling reminds me of the toyota crown athletes over in japan. i cant wait to drive one.

Well i switched to a Chrysler 300 touring as they had to return the service loaner.
OMG i hate this car. It has drive by wire and i have no clue who is driving the car or me? The throttle hesitates when you are slowly trying to increase the out put to reduce wheel spin but totally makes you jam the gas to actually move out of 80's chrysler K car mode ( ultra slow) It has no in between from standing starts unless you turn off the traction which only makes it slightly better.
The finish is a joke where i can look inside the door panel from the window switched. The leatherette or generation 2 Corinthian leather ( for those old enough to remember that (Chrysler's in the 80's marketed vinyl) .
It is noisy and feels like i am driving on minivan tire. Oh sorry i am driving on behemoth tires to soften the awful ride. The best part is the interior smells like anchovies. This is not from previous renters but the actual vinyl is school bus grade with more grain added as well as all the aroma.

The best part is that this is chrysler's hot selling car and it has 25000km on it again. The front end suspension is all over the place on the highway. SO it goes to show that this car and its company just are not stepping up their game.

LOL ^ Well put, I couldnt have said that any better myself. Its played out already, and now all the "OLE Folk" are pimping them out.

Oh and yes, the ES350 is faster...the Camry SE V6 outpulled me today at a stoplight. I was embarassed.

All part of the L finesse look just like all marque auto makers. Only the GS has a slight difference with dual headlights still. They are supposed to look like the same cars with different advantages. i.e. no more step children
