ran out of gas
well the other day i ran out of gas not once but twice. Got gas and car wouldnt start. Next day started the car and it was making a popping noise under the hood and a large amount of white smoke came from the exhaust. Car ran really bad for the whole day. It was very sluggish at take off the first day. Next day it was a little better and today it has stopped all together. But the white smoke still happens every morning at startup. Its not my power steering pump because weve already fixed that. The car runs great but dont understand why it all happened just over running out of gas. someone help

I guess I don't need to worry about that. Considering my old mech screwed my tank and I had to get a brand new one! haha.
Hope your problems are an easy fix man! Fuel filter is easy peasy to change.

If the pump is screwed what would cause it to run white on start up ?
Nothing other than running extremely rich that you can smell gas and your cats might not even get red from the gas cooling them off.
When it runs white is it for a second then clears up or all the time?
Does it smell and like what ?
My first thought is it has always been doing this and now you noticed it.
If then would be that the valve stem seals are old and worn and are allowing oil to drip into the cylinder. So when you start the car it burns it off.
Need a compression test and leak down to make sure.
Other thought is your power steering valve is feeding oil into the system through the intake.
Neither cause a car to idle badly and "POP" . Somehow that is caused by bad timing , so an injector may be stuck open and dumping fuel .
Too many variables unless you fill in more blanks.

If the problems you listed above started happening right after you ran out of gas, then you need to start diagnosing what they suggested, because thats probably the reason.
You need to stop worrying about white on startup, etc, until you fix the fuel filter. There's a lot of things you could ave caused problems wih by letting all the sediment on the bottom of the tank get in there. fixing the fuel Filter will allow you to more easily see what the others are.
Valve stems, and other problems are all things that happen over time, not right after a "major incident" (I would consider this one). Those could very well be bad and their problems just amplified by the affects of running out of gas.

My car is running rich. I smell gas alot when i start it up. Also, the other day I was merging onto the highway and had just put the pedal down all the way and suddenly a truck slammed on his brakes, then I had to. This caused the car to only rev up and not accelerate...but when I let off the gas I heard a popping noise...almost like a backfire! Please dont tell me my car is becomming one with the state of KY..

TJ yours is easy bad coil or open injector.
Unplug one harness connector at a time working around the engine to see which makes no change to the idle.
Once found pop the plug and check if it is getting too much fuel .
Or just sea foam it.
I ran out of gas once and was no where near a station so i poured a bottle of seafoam into the tank and drove a mile . It sputtered like hell but got me there.
