tips for optimun gas mileage?
What are the most important things you can do for this. My new car is 92 and it has been in a very slight fender bender in the front and there was no air bag or bumper damage so i am just fixing it up and am very excited to be back in the ls saddle again. I had to sell my last one because of an emergency, oh well. I had just finished with fixing it up very nicely too. It was a 90 white (beautiful). It had a pioneer cd changer in it. I was sick to see it go and knew i was coming back someday. Jeff

1. Keep it tuned up
2. tires at correct pressure.
Skinflint extremes
3. On highways, keep to 90 km/hr
4. Turn off engine at traffic lights
5. After filling, upend the gas hose to get that pennyworth of gas in.
6. Keep the Air conditioning off (why am I driving a luxury car?)
Future stuff:
- Convert to biodiesel / Hydrogen enhanced / LPG / Electric

driving under the speed limit works (but who does that ), not using AC also works. stopping engine at a light doesnt work because you use a good amount of fuel to start a engine, and when ur in stop and go traffic, its not that good. also when ur going downhill, try coasting (foot off the accelerator and let gravity pull u down the hill).

Drive like you don't have brakes, and keep your tires inflated properly.
One question: I also heard that starting your car uses quite a bit of fuel. Is this true, and is it worth the wear and tear on your car turning it off and starting it at every stoplight? Maybe newer cars use less fuel to start and therefore that tactic would work?

Also, what do you think about inflating your tires to the maximum listed on the tire sidewall? The guys over at hypermiling.com recommend this (as well as a lot of other stuff, but I really don't want to change my driving habits too much).

DONT pump your tires to the max that is listed on the sidewall. The rating that you should go by is the one that is listed on your driver side door jam. The rating is a balance between comfort and fuel economy. The max I would go is around 36psi. Summer is coming and if you're going to pump to the max that the tires can hold, you can be asking for trouble.

get a Toyota Prius! LOL no way! I just drive like a Grandpa and it drastically cut down my gas consumption, hey the LS is a cruzer drive slow and enjoy. Every stop light is not a race light. Let people pass you up in there little 4 bangers. If you wanna flex on them you know you got that big V8 under the hood...

ignore anyone that says that driving with windows down is worse than the A/C on due to drag.
Even mythbusters said that was true
I tested this 3 times after my a/c broke in my gs and i got 40-45miles more from my tank that i never got before.
I had no a/c with windows rolled down and i got that much more miles.

35mph on streets
55mph on freeway
stop lights over a minute (i do ones over 2), turn off engine
less than 50mph, windows down
more than 50mph, windows up
dont cruise control on uphill
yellow light from afar, coast to red light
light foot on the gas
