Hello all, 93 ls400 all stock pioneer system to looking to do a minimal upgrade. Just want to say I mostly use car for work so not looking to have the best setup but for an inexpensive better sound then all stock has. I am looking to upgrade 8in sub and head unit and this is what I came up with.

Head unit

Wire Harness
http://www.amazon.com/SCOSCHE-TA02B-..._bxgy_e_text_b

Mounting/dash kit
http://www.amazon.com/Metra-Lexus-LS...ref=pd_sim_e_1

Thing is, I'm not sure about the sub woofer connection.. Is it a part of the wire harness already or is there another wire/adapter i need? I've read in previous post how they lost their sub upgrading head units. So again I want the factory amp to work with the new head unit and new sub. Is this possible? I also ran across this connector but really not sure if it applies..

Receiver Wiring Harness
For select 1992-00 Lexus and Toyota vehicles with factory amplifier

All of the speakers including the sub have wires that run from the amp under passenger seat to the speaker. There isn't a seperate amp for the sub. If you remove the stock amp and don't replace it you won't have a sub.

Most headunits have interated amps for the main speakers, but you'll need an amp to make the sub go boom.

Ok, so just to be clear.. . If I purchased all the above except the last wire, I should be fine? I will not be replacing factory Amp, at least I don't want to. Just hoping the new head and sub with factory Amp will be doable for better than stock sounds. Thx for your replies!

I'm sorry I must bow out on this one. I thought that if you replaced your HU that you would not be able to use the OEM amp, but it looks like that last crutchfield wire might work.

Hopefully someone else will step in and confirm if it's possible to use an aftermarket HU w/ the OEM amp.

there is a way to use an aftermarket hu w/ the oem amp. what you pretty much have to do is add in rca's into the stock harness. its not really worth it, because you can't adjust the gains on the stock amp. so it sounds really low.

BeatSonic is the easiest way to use aftermarket deck with stock amp. But its spendy.
Its cheaper to rewire with aftermarket amp. But its not easy.

So what if one were to hook up the way you suggest, but instead of using the RCA out's use the speaker outs into a line-ouput converter. They are all adjustable and I'm pretty sure would increase the voltage of most RCA outputs.

I decided to just order the last harness posted just to see what happens. I haven't ordered hu yet but I'll repost my experience after installing.

Try my suggestion if it's really quiet when you hook it up.

Here are some pictures of my setup. I did this 8 years ago and tried to get some of the best components I knew of at the time. Since then, the amp has lost some channels, I've blown through a few sets of XRs, and the 8W7 lost it's foam surround (probably because it was exposed to the sun so much...even through the cover). When everything is working, it sounds awesome...and the 8W7 wallops in this configuration.

I didn't want to sacrifice much trunk space, so I built a box and amp mount that would be minimally intrusive. I don't remember the exact specs of the box, but I think it's around a cubic foot sealed. The box is bolted to the rear deck lid and supported by the amp mount underneath that is bolted to the trunk floor. Very minimal, if any, rattling from this setup.

As you can see from the pictures, the top of the box had to be built up (at an angle, no less) for the 8W7 to sit on top. The bottom also had to be extended to allow for the massive magnet the 8W7 has.
