Well like my trip to southern NC and back last year I only went as far as Virginia Beach this year. 3 kids in the back(100lbs), ~180lbs of stuff in trunk and wife in front passenger seat with AC on there and back and got combined mileage of 25mpg.

Funniest part of the trip of was when this lady cut in front of me out of a toll both across all the lanes and ended up going down the WRONG WAY hahah that was great.

Something is wrong with your driving style and/or your car. My 94 has consistently gotten 19mpg in mostly city driving. Up to 23mpg 90% highway.

BTW, what is this talk about the OP not using A/C in 116 degree weather? You might as well get a Prius if you are that interested in MPG. My A/C is on when the outside temp goes above 80-85.
