Anything taped on would look taped on and not give a truly finished look. It would need to be a high gloss black. It atleast could be done as a test to see the difference but it would only fall off with a bit of heat as the adhesive will not be able to seal on a thin strip as well.
But it is just my opinion as i don't even have the lights to even try.
