Default Noob Question on Exhaust...

Hey guys, new to the site... great forum by the way. I have a '95 LS400 and was wanting to get exhaust put on. Can anyone recommend a nice exhaust system for it? I wanted to delete the dual exhaust and go to a single fatty stainless one, like a Blitz, HKS, Greddy, ect but not sure if they make one or even where to buy it from? Do you think I'll lose power going to a single muffler?? ...Any help is greatly appreciated. Only other mods I've done so far are 19" ADR M-Sports, JDM tail lights, clear corners, & getting ready to throw on some Tanabe Springs I just got for it. Thanks guys!

yes you will definitely lose power going to a single can, this is a V8 car, not an inline or boxer motor. single setups don't work well and weren't meant for it.

through trial and error several members have found that the best setup for power/torque is a 2.25in dual exhaust system, with an x-pipe, hooked up to whatever mufflers you desire.

personally the "turbo" style mufflers you speak of sound like crap imho on the 1uz motor, it's not a free-revving small motor. but that's more of a personal choice.

the ONLY exhaust company that has a pre-made exhaust similar to what you are looking for is JIC, and it is a dual turbo style cat-back exhaust that starts at roughly $800-1000.

oh, and there are no "JDM tails" for the LS, taillights in japan were the same as in the US
most likely you have red/clear/red (aka RCR) tails, which originated in taiwan/china or (if you paid over $350-400) from japan, but are NOT "JDM" in the original sense.

Awesome! As far as the tails... I'm just going off of what it said here:
http://www.lextasy.com/ls400_jdm_tai..._1213_prd1.htm
But yeah, these are what I was referring to.

Anyways... So dual exhaust huh? Kewl... I'll look into it. Thanks!

LOL Thats definetly not true about V8's in general not being suited to a single exhaust system, for one example of many on my other car that runs a 308cube small block holden V8, my many back to back dyno/track tests prove a 3" single system wins over all the differant combinations of twin and single systems we tried, single system v8s are pretty common here is Aust (depending on the car/V8 type) but all situations are dependent on many factors and that is just an example of how a single system V8 is not doomed to loose power.

But in saying that the idea of a LS with a single pipe out the back is just wrong. Would look so cheap with the 2 exhaust cutouts in the bumper and 1 rice muffer, When I got my LS it had cannons on it, trust me its not a goodlook unless your a baller with a ratty LS with bad taste that also intends to put on huge cheap chromies that dont suit the car then id say go for it.

Also Juction Produce use to make them for the 1st gen ive seen a set in person before (Differant to the rcr's you see everywhere), not sure about 2nd gen tho. But the ones he has are definetly not japanese (ebay style!).
