DIY and save $280. I used a water based steamer "Scunci Steamer" to remove my old tint. I picked it up at Walmart for around $39.99. It makes it moderately easy; that with at least 2-3 razor blades and patience and you can get all the old tint off. I used it to remove both rear windows and the rear windshield. There is a slight chance that you may damage the rear defogger during the removal but you really cant use the rear defogger anyways when you re-tint the back (because the heat will cause the tint to bubble).
I just put 5% all around (including the fronts). I had 5 CHP pass me by on 1 day! I know they are gonna get me one of these days.

When you activate the defogger, you are sending high heat through those little strips of metal. The heat usually dissipates very well over the glass, but not entirely. If you look at those cars that do have bubbles, you will see its was because the glue eventually melted away from those strips and eventually the defogger will use its heat to expand the air and create the bubble.
I know there are some metallic bases in some tints, but every tint shop will tell you not to use the defogger if you want to keep their "lifetime" warranty.

avalon well not sure about that. buttt mine is a metallic based tint. they will replace it no matter what happens too it for as long as i own the ls. and they said nothing at all to me about not using it the only thing they said is never ever again can i use amonia based window cleaner.

I have 20% on mine all the way round except for the front windshield. Have never had a problem with the rear defroster nor bubbling of the tint due to it. Most shops don't want to tint Lexus vehicles b/c of the defroster lines on the back window and how easily they are damaged. I personally respect shops that let me know this up front and do not do the job; at least I know they are concious of what they can damage if not careful. Tint law in MD is 35%. Only have a run in with the cops, every so often when they have nothing to do. Here is my pic,,,
