Dying LS 400
Hey Guys,
I've had a problem with my 93 Ls 400 dying while I drive. I saw a post about this a long time on these forums but tried finding it again and i'm unsuccessful.
Basically if I drive without the AC on, when I come to a stop or i'm driving slowly through a business area or around school looking for parking, the idle is very rough between 500 and 1000 rpm, sometimes it will completely just die
If I drive with the AC on I can drive around fine, but when I park my car and put it into Park, the engine automatically will shut off or drop to 100 rpms and sputter around and eventually die.
Whats the remedy to this problem, from what i recall from the old post, it had something to do with either the ECU or the Idle Steering Up...
I really want to get this fixed so when it's cold I don't have to drive with the AC on and waste extra gas, and especially because it can be a safety hazard if the car dies while i'm driving
Someone Please Help!!! THANKS

I had the same symptoms as you. I removed and cleaned the throttle body (tutorial on lexls.com) and that resolved the issue completely... but it started doing it again a year later. This time I bypassed the idle air valve on the PS pump, and the issue is gone for good.

Ya I also had the throttle body cleaned out as well, and it solved it for a couple of days, but went exactly to the same problem again, how would you go about bypassing the idle air valve on the ps pump? Is that something a good mechanic should do? I wanted to bring my car into lexus, but i have a feeling they're gonna charge me hard for things i probably really don't even need to change...

Do a quick test... Under your hood, theres a small hose that runs from your air intake to the bottom of power steering pump, and then another hose that runs from the bottom of the steering pump into the intake manifold. Disconnect the first hose from the air intake, and the second hose from intake manifold, and buy ~2 feet of the same hose at an auto parts store and connect it directly from air intake to intake manifold. See if that solves your problem.
