are there auto transmissions without torque converters? (DSG don't count)
it's possible, but you'd be throwing a CEL most likely. if you go into that line of thought then a solenoid or harness in the trans might be dead.

i'm not a very knowledgeable transmission guy. That's why i was asking. My thought process came from the offroad community in how a torque converter affects the shift points when descending obstacles and how it holds shift points.

I think my first place to look is at transmission/throttle cables and make sure they are to spec.
