93 LS400 Engine Fan Grinding Noise
Guys i just purchased a 93 LS for a daily beater and just did all the tune up last week including timing belt, water pump, plugs...now all of a sudden i hear a loud grinding noise from the Fan in the bay...I dont see it being hitting something. I am even afraid to drive to the mechanic...What could it be? Can i still drive it?

Fan bracket pulley would seem to be the most obvious based on the symptoms you posted and the fact that it is a common fail item on our cars, especially the older ones like you and I possess. When mine went, pretty much the same noise as yours; Loud grinding noise from the fan area. Hevent seen too many members with Idler pulley problems here. Being that the first gen LS has a non interference motor, you can drive it for a short distance to your mechanic however it will sould like crap though. In worse case scenerio, as mine did, the bearings will lock up, serpentine belt will pop, every light on the dash will appear, car will get REALLY REALLY quiet, and you will be driving on nothing but raw battery power. Put car in Neutral at stop lights and keep the revs up above 1K, light change, drop into gear and go. I, unfortunately had to do this when mine went.

Most places would have to order it, if they can even get their hands on it. I can't remember if this is an dealer item only part or not. I had to get mine from the dealer. Check over in the vendor forum. CarsonLexus, and Sewell Lexus are vendors here. May be able to help save a few $$'s.
