some one posted some info about hoodshocks for 90-94 ls, like where to buy them for fairly cheap price for some brand new one's, can that someone post it again? or leave a # or website?

I just replaced these myself on my 95 ls400. I cut off the stock hood struts with a dremel (carefully) and replaced with a set from a local auto store. The new struts slipped right over the stock "ball" and are held on with a snap clip. Took 15 minutes total and they work great. The brand was Mighty and the # I used is 95029. Good luck!

Ed, could I get you to go into a little more detail here?

Where are you "cutting" with a Dremel tool and what type of blade or bit?

The originals on my '96 are shot, tho the car is otherwise in pristine condx, only 49k miles. Coming up due for the 50k mile checkup and it'd be nice to have the hood stay open without spending hundreds. Bracing it open with a 2 x 4 is kinda ghetto..

Ok guys this is the brand and model to use. $19.99 @ Autozone.

 

And the drill bit is 5/32, you can see the hole right on top of the old hood strut, that's where I drilled.

 

I did everything the same way couple days back...I never thought that anything can lift that hood! It was heavy as hell. Now it just goes up by itself

 

I have been trying to locate the hood support C95029 at my local Autozones for days and none stock that number. Their lift support selection is too few.

Retrodrive: Which Autozone in San Diego did you find the item? I visit S. D. often and would like to pick up a set on my next visit.

 

That was AutoZone on ElCajon Bulevard exit. There are at least 3 of them at that spot so it is goin to be hard to find. I will actually need a pair of supports for my trunk so I can pick up an extra pair for you.

Just performed this operation. Works great. This has been a fantastic thread. One word of advice; keep a 50 pack of dremel cutting disks handy. I went through about 25 or more to cut the ends off. And make sure you wear safety glasses. It's well worth the time.
