1999 LS400 changing steering wheel
I bought a new wooden steering wheel for my 1999 LS400 - old had a lot of hair line cracks in wood and I got one in a lot better shape. Just a quick question - besides disconnecting battery before messing/disconnecting&connecting airbag, do I need to take any other precautions?
Thanks ahead of time.

the steering wheels on both LS400s I have developed cracks in the varnish.. it's subtly annoying in that when you run your hand over it, you definitely feel them.
i was hoping someone might have a suggestion as to getting them refinished (preferably while still mounted), so as to avoid the issues you're seeing w/ the airbag, dismounting, etc.
Anyone have luck sanding / revarnishing?

wood steering wheel
I read somewhere that manufacturing those wood steering wheels is a pretty complicated process and vanishing them as well. Even if someone tried revanishing it or so, he would have to take the steering wheel off to work on it, I believe. I just bought one in good shape for $150 and planning on installing it. I`ve put airbags into 2 salvage cars with blown airbags(after they were rebiult) but thought I`d ask anyway just in case.
