I was thinking perhaps you meant low oil pressure warning lamp, but you said another vehicle you was thinking of... I am wondering out of curiosity, what car has a low fuel pressure warning light?

Not car .....Truck, I have a 96 Chevy 3500HD 6.5TD Tow Truck (Dynamic, Self loader) and I have a mech fuel pressure idiot light hooked up so when my lift pump goes out I don't kill my injection pump from having to suck fuel from the tank....(the LP delivers fuel to the IP)

This light was never a problem before, now it's a game to see how long it takes to shut off......Is oil pump R and R a big deal?

Thanks again for all the quick responses

i've never seen an oil pump go out on one of these engines in several years of working on them....so i have no idea whether or not it's a big deal to change one.
i think you're worrying more tha you have to. just change back to 5w30 and i think you'll be fine.

Thanks for the good words 19......but this rig is ticking even when warm and she used to be like butter/smooth.....I'll switch the oil and hope to be telling you that, "you were right".

Gotta love those oil burners....

With a high mileage car, I would say yes, using synthetic could cause some pressure issues, especially under load or at higher revs. At high mileage, engines tend to become loose, causing the pressure to drop because the oil has more/bigger passages to return through and the pump can't keep the pressure up. Your mileage would seem to be too low to have this prob. Try the 5w30 and see what happens.

If you want run a thicker oil 5W-40 diesel synthetic such as Delvac 1 or Rotella Synthetic works - it'll flow like 5W-30 when it's cold but act like a 10W-40 when it warms up.

I'm running Pennzoil Platinum in a 228K LS, doesn't leak it at all. And it improves MPG by a wee bit.

Is a diesel rated oil OK to run in these gas motors?

The diesel rated oils have higher levels of zinc and phosphorus - while the newer API SM/ILSAC GF-4 oils have less ZDDP to protect the catalytic converter.

Our engines can handle the higher ZDDP levels - and I've noticed the RH front/LH rear cam lobes look more worn than the ends where the oil feed pipe is. I'm thinking about running Shell Rotella synthetic 5W-40 next OCI. I'm currently using Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30.
