i dont think the 2UZ trany can be used with the 1UZ motor...

why not just take the motor and tranny out of a junker and drop them in?

Ok, but will a 1UZ tranny fit on a 2UZ motor?

I would take the motor out of a junker once I find out if it's worth doing. If I don't need the tranny from the 2UZ motor (if the 1UZ bolts up to the 2UZ just fine), then I'm not going to waste any coin. If it's too much hassle then I'll think of an alternate motor to use. No biggy.

Just trying to get some particulars.

Thread resurrection!!!!

I've been all over the internet and I can't find anything solid. It seems like all of the 2UZ swap into revolves around swapping rods, pistons and heads, which I'm not interested in.

I recently purchased a '98 with a bad motor and while I haven't opened it up to see just how bad it is yet I do know that if I end up having to replace the motor entirely that a 2UZ is going to be WAAAAAAY easier (and cheaper) to source locally.

I understand the mounts are different and would require custom fabrication (which I can handle) but I can't find ANYTHING regarding a 1UZ tranny bolting up to a 2UZ (i suspect it will...) or if a 2UZ will even fit, dimensionally, in the LS' bay...

Anyone?

like any motor swap with a bigger engine, this will require major work. you have not found anything solid bc it has not been done before, afaik! be the first!

dimensionally it should fit, but you will have to run custom headers. it is unknown still about the 1UZ transmission bolting up. wiring will be a nightmare. if you really want to tackle something like this, why not just go full on LSx! that motor is much easier to source and swap in with the plethora of knowledge out there now.

I can't imagine the 1UZ trans wouldn't bolt up to the 2UZ but you're right, it's still an unknown. My co-worker is 1UZ swapping his '93 truck and his W58 adapter kit just arrived, I might order a 2UZ bellhousing and see what's what... I love a good LSX but I work at Toyota (parts) so the idea of keeping it all the same "brand" is super alluring, plus our master technician is down to tackle the wiring so that's a huge plus.

1uz swaps in anything haha. it's still an ECU controlled motor, but much easier to wire being OBD1.

i understand your wanting to stay toyota. i suppose the 2uz trans will not fit due to being 4wd? only one way to find out is to get the 2uz block, take measurements, and see if the bellhousing of the 1uz trans comes close.

I dream of a 1UZ Corolla track car to complete the Toyota trifecta in the garage but I refuse to pay the drift tax.

Once we begin tear down of the LS Im sure all these questions will be answered, I really started looking into this as a "simple" solution if my 1UZ does turn out to be complete garbage but the more I think about it the more I'm into it....
