What does it mean when your gas tank makes a whoosh when you take off the cap?

not true..sometimes mine doesnt depressurize....but thats when its extremely low. then next fill up it'll have the sound.

lol okay, i know Im asking a lotta questions, but Im a curious man...
but what happens to the gas when the cap or gasket isnt good? does the gas evaporate and escape the tank?

you will get CEL on with EVAP codes like P0440...etc.
