wanting to do a build 91ls400 motor where to start HELP
ok I just got given a 1uz out of a sc400 car had about 80k on it the guy was gonna do a build but lost intrest then he gave it to another guy but he wanted the vvti so he didn't use it and now it is my turn......
so what do I do I have to stay within a somewhat light on the cost what would you guy's do if you were gonna do the build... I fugure it will be better if I ask first before I start buying part's I don't need here r the #'s on the front of the motor I guess it is best to start here 0312470 and then off to the side there is what look's to be the letter Z any help would be very helpfull

To be honest with you, alot of parts for the 1UZFE (the motor which you have from the SC, shared by the LS) are not abundant to do a build on and you are pretty much gonna have to fabricate just about everything. It is not impossible to do, however the reason why alot of people just dont even crack this engine open is b/c of the expense involved. Replacement parts are/can be rather expensive, aftermarkets parts in the way of upgrade almost do not exist, fabrication and mockup is gonna have to be done via trial and error, etc. This motor is virtually bulletproof and probably one of the best motors that Lexus ever built(questionable design on some areas tho. particularly where the starter is. What were they thinking?!!). God luck with your build, should you decide to take it on. Take LOTS of pics.

Might want to try to look on the Supra forums as well. Alot of guys there are starting to finaly crack the power of this engine. Like I said before, no one really does anything, in the states, with this engine due to the high cost to build.

when you are building a motor
SAVE COST, SAVE LABOR/TIME, MAKE POWER
you can only have two of these. so if you want to save on cost, be ready to do the majority of work yourself and fabricate needed parts. good luck with it. i won't build an ls motor without $$$. with or without $$$, i will go forced induction.

Looks like the motor has suffered from a BHG - and the wrong coolant has been used. Do you have a good machine shop around that can clean things up and see if the block's porous?

When coolant goes bad - meaning either the pH has gone up or down, the inhibitor package has been depleted or both events have occured, the highly acidic or basic coolant/water mixture will attack any metal it touches via galvanic corrosion. That's why it's so important to keep tabs on cooling system maintenance - change the coolant every 2-3 years and use a non-silicate and non-2EHA coolant, Toyota/Honda coolants and Peak Global Lifetime fit the bill - DO NOT use a "all makes/models" coolant like Prestone/Peak Longlife/SuperTech or Dex-Cool in our engines. Prestone is now just Dex-Cool dyed yellow-green.
