92 LS400 Getting code 12
I've A 92 ls 400 with 217K and I'm getting a engine code 12 - RPM SIGNAL. Can someone interpret this please ? What does it mean and how can i fix it because this is causing vehicle to stall everynow and then and some times it wont start at all.

I replaced my timing belt after cotemplating for the past year. A couple of people say it may have been a took off triggering the code 12. I also replaced the pulley bearings and tensioner ($400 all together in parts). This hasnt solved my code 12 - car still cuts off. Im frustrated

thats what they said the first time i replaced the belt in 06. this was actually a re-work i did yesterday with a new belt and to be honest the belt i put in 06 was lined up perfect. the bearings were shot though. so i dont think its off a tooth and i dont think its the cam sensor coz i replaced both a year ago. however, i replaced the sensors with used ones i got off an engine i have for parts.

This sounds like a similar problem I had with my 2000 MBZ C280. It started with a random no start and after letting the car sit for an arbitrary amount of time, it would start and run absolutely normally until the next random no start. This progressed to a random stall where you would be driving down the road and the car would suddenly shut down. If you sat for awhile, the car would start and then run normally until the next stall. Turned out to be the crankshaft position sensor (changed the camshaft position sensor also but this didn't fix it). Don't know if there is a similar part for our Lexus.

AFTER PYTHONS COMMENT ABOUT CHANGING CONNECTORS TO THE CAM SENSORS TOO, I DECIDED TO CLEAN THE CONNECTORS WITH AN ELECTRONIC CONTACT CLEANER. WELL SO FAR THE CAR'S BEEN FINE. WOULDN'T THAT BE SOMETHING IF IT WAS JUST A CONNECTOR. IT HAS BEEN AN EXPERIENCE AND FROM IT I'VE LEARNED THAT A TOOTH OFF ON THE TIMING WOULD TRIGGER THE CRANK SENSOR. I PAID $600 FOR THE TIMING BELT, WATER PUMP, THE TWO BEARING PULLEYS AND THE TENSIONER. THERE'S A WEB SITE: http://www.shopping.com/xDN-automoti...cessories~PG-8
WHERE ALL THIS INCLUDING THE CAM O RINGS- $259 (FREE SHIPPING) OUCH!!!!
THE CAR WOULD HAVE NEVER RAN THAT SMOOTH BEING ONE TOOTH OFF. ALL OF YOU HAVE BEEN A BIG HELP AND I HOPE THIS IS IT BUT YET TO SEE WILL KEEP POSTED .THANKS!!

the cam sensors are right in the distributor housing the connectors for the left, under the top radiator hose and is attached to the coolant by pass line, for the right connector it is right underneath the coil pack thats next to the thermostat housing. will try to post pic but i'm not computer savy
