well now it sounds like a carfax error to me since it shows higher milage before and after the dealer recorded milage. looks like you got a great deal on your hands if you can deal with the uncertainty.

Carfax is reporting what DMV have recorded, I have a copy of the title that state the millage is 264,xxx. Here is where i am tab confuse if its normal for DMV to screw up in this way.

Well since Lexus is reporting the recorded mileage at around 70K when they last had it, and keep in mind that they ACTUALLY had the car in their posession and could see it first hand, then the mileage that the owner is stating may be correct. Only unforseen instance could be odometer rollback, but that is alot of work to get done and normally only a mechanic can do it with a certain degree of not having it obvioous. DMV relies in infor provided to them by the owner/inspection station in order to update their records. It very well could be a clerical error in this case. Carfax, same thing. They mainly depend on reported information from DMV as well as several repair facilities involving insurance companies(claims). Really seems now, that you may have a gem of a steal. Now just have to investigate way to get the carfax info straight. May be able to coordinate with a dealer for ways to get records straight.

Could the complete instrument cluster have been changed out with new or salvage?

what throws off the roll back theory is the dealer's milage was between 2 dmv records (that are very suspect on their own). it would have to have been rolled back and then forward again.

i don't know what to tell you (op) except don't do anything you're not comfortable with.

listen..... what we all know is true ls4's are around and will continue to be around. So what i would say is if you like the car, take is to a certified lexus dealer or a real mechanic, pay for a complete diagnostic of everything under the sun. Do a smog check. and if everything passes. offer 1000.00 and see if it flys.

my bimmer was like that. odometer read 198k but in reality it had close to 300k and was rolled back somewhere between the last owner and the dealer that sold it to him.

Yes Sir i did...too red for you Tony? lol

Here is what was done on the car to date
Installed AviStart 5103 Remote Start, Replaced Left fog lamp, Replaced CD magazine, Replaced windshield, Purolator Air Filter
Clean throttle body, NGK Spark Plugs, Oil Change (Pennzoil Oil 10W40), Replaced Valve cover, Changed valve cover gas kit.
When I go over rough surface there is a lot of noise coming from the front passenger wheel, I had my mechanic looked at it and he said everything checked out fine, but I am looking for a second opinion.

LS is notorious for ball joint wear, gets worse when lowered (LOL!!). Could also be the strut rod. The bushing in them is known to go bad, over time, and produce a clunking noise over bumps. Looks fine on visual inspection, but will give you noise and slight vibration during normal driving. I still need to do mine as well as change my front LBJ's back to OEM.

Looks like it's in good shape!! Congrats!

I might be picking up a blue 91 this weekend! I'm a little hesitant still, but it's in great shape.
