Did you fill it back up to see how much gas was actually used? Using the needle to gauge fuel mileage is completly inaccurate. I've never heard of LS400 getting over 30MPG..........ever

yeah I refilled it, I was just telling you where the needle was just to give a visual of where it was.

FYI, i'm averaging 20-21.5 mpg in the city and 29-31 mpg on the highway.

I averaged, once, on a trip from Greensboro, NC to Birmingham, AL 32.8MPG. I was blown away too. ON the way back i reset everything and used my GPS to back up the numbers.... averaged 31.9mpg on the way home.

Put a new air filter in, new M1 oil/filter change before the trip.

Isn't there a possibility that his car is running lean? It runs fine on the highway but gets bad mileage in the city b/c you don't want to be lean unless you're cruising, much like on the highway.. Hey OP, maybe you should get a preinspection at a smog center and report back the results. (Will let us know if it's running rich or lean or both)

I think there might be an issue with how you measure your MPG thats causing this drastic variation. Can you share with us how you measured your MPG?

the same way you all measure it.

I drove the car and when I got to the town I was going to, i stopped in the nearest gas station, so that any town/ city driving wouldn't interfere with the reading, just put in my debit card and filled it till it clicked, which was 3.2 gallons.

101 (mileage on trip meter) divided by 3.2 = 31.56. which I rounded to 32 (maybe I cheated a little bit)

that's how I got my answer
I dont know if I would get this mileage again
