no, doesnt have LSD. as the gears wear and mesh, they tend to give both wheels a bit of power, so you will lay down 2 stripes of rubber during a burnout, but in a corner only the inner wheel will be getting any actual power.

Not to rub it in boss but mine with nearly 250,000 miles can do an awesome power stall with double marks - and with 285's Maybe you need a tune up as previously stated?

An open differential powers BOTH wheels/tires... UNTIL... one looses traction and then all of the engine power goes to the tire with no traction. This is why most cars will spin one tire.

The way a differential works is with spyder gears inside the housing. These are designed to move easily and this allows the differential action necessary for turning corners. Here is an old but very good video on how they work. Skip ahead to 2:00 minutes.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4Jhr...eature=related

Clutch type limited slip differentials work by making it harder for the spyder gears to freely rotate. For those that watched the video the spyder gears are the "spokes".

In our cars as the spyder gears become less and less free to spin in the case that contains them. The end result is LIMITED SLIP. Our cars were not designed as limited slip but the Toyota differential becomes one as it gets worn!!!

I just tested my 150k mile 99 LS400 and it IS spinning both tires. Nice. This was NOT the case when I was track testing the car and recorded the 14.22 times. It spun one tire VERY hard. This made it much harder to get optimum launch times and my best 60ft time was 2.19 seconds.

I recommend anyone that does not thoroughly understand how a differential works to view the above video. It was a good refresher for myself. It comes from the time when General Motors was truly a world class company.

Ohhh the memories of the LS400...

The 430 will barely do it, but I haven't done anything to open the engine.

That may be the most awesome 30's tutorial i've ever watched.

Normally when I think 30's - 50's tutorials I think of them telling students to get under the table in case of a nuclear blast...like that will protect them.

Awesome vid.
