Lexus struts or sears??
I'm trying to find out if there’s anything special about Lexus struts. Any info??? The dealer wants $58 each for the front and $65 for the back.

Is that expensive or something?
I don't think there's anything "special" about the LS's suspension unless you have air suspension...I'm sure there are other brands of replacement Struts...but those prices don't sound too bad!

They cost about the same just sears has lifetime warranty and Lexus is 1 year. The Dealer charge $316 for parts and installation. I’m going to give it a try myself. I’ve installed 4 struts on a Honda in the past and hope it doesn’t require any major tools other than a spring compressor. Has anyone done it before? Anyone have a copy of the strut assembly from the service manual?

The right tools!
You will probably not have any problem, but definately have a ball joint puller (or any kind of puller for that matter) to disconnect the steering knuckle from the upper A-arm. You can get the strut out without one, but will never get it back. Ask me how I know
It is also easier if both front wheels are off the ground, gives you a little more leverage room. Here are the torque figures:
Steering knuckle ball joint - 46ft/lbs
center nut on shock - 26ft/lbs
three nuts on strut tower - 20ft/lbs
lower shock bolt to suspension - 106ft/lbs, recheck after settling or driving car
This is from memory - did it two days ago. I may have the 20 and 26 reversed.
The rear is another ball of wax, removal of rear seat, trim and shelf, along with disconnecting half shaft. Good luck. Front should not take you longer than 1-1 1/2 hours per side. I have not attempted the rear yet.
