Radiator bites the big one after freeway...
I was driving down (normal speed) to pick up some tables when I get the "White House" orange indicator light. I pull over as soon as I can, and check it out. Nothing appears to be wrong (other than the coolant loss), so I added coolant and warmed up the car again. I rev'd the engine and then heard gushing sounds coming from the car, so I hop out, and low and behold, the top of my radiator was seeping coolant from the top of the plastic tank. (yes, I had to take the top of the intake off).
The next four hours was hunting down a fairly "new" used radiator from Pick a Part. $45, can't beat it. The poor SOB whose LS ended up there was having overheat issues as well, because I took out his upper and lower hose and found saw that he cut out the core of his thermostat. Just to be safe, I changed my thermostat again. Driving around in this 90 degree weather, my gauge reads just a slight tad over middle. Concerned about this, I used a laser meter which read that the water is operating at a cool 165-170 Farenheit.
Anyone else here use a laser temp gauge on their car to get numbers? Also, how much better is the Toyota red compared to the Peak green? Anyone here using notice the red coolant vs. green bumps the temperature down more?
