Tires from Costco.Will 235/50/zr 18 fit on a 95 ls 400?
Hi all,
Some of you may recall when last spring I had Costco install 4 new Micheline Primacy MXV4 tires on my 95 LS.They had installed three differnt model tires and sizes.
The situtation was eventually rectified.
Now, after a summer and a half of use(about 30 thousand kms or 18 thousand miles), my rear tires are almost bald! The tires have a 100 000 km warranty.
The rep at Costco questioned my alignment and driving habits. The car is of course perfectly aligned and I offered to let him drive it to prove it.
He abandoned that arguement and went back to asking about my driving habits. All this before even looking at the tires!
Their solution was to put the tires that have less tread(the rear ones)to the front and the front ones in the rear and to return in August to have the 2 tires replaced. Can anyone see the point in me driving with two worn front tires?
Needless to say, when I return in August I will insist on having all 4 tires replaced-uneven treads are simply not an option after having spent nearly 900$ on new tires.I may go with Pilot Exaltos and pay the differnce.
I am considering buying a higher performance tire that I saw for sale on the Internet. They are Toyo Proxes 4.Size: 235/50/ZR18.Brand new.
Will that size tire fit on my 95 LS without having to do any modifications?.I will of course purchse new or used 18' wheels to replcace the stock 16".I am hoping a 10 mm drop in profile(tire height) will not affect the comfort too much.I am willing to trade a little comfort for more performance and better grip.
Thanks.

235/50/18 is a match for the original size within about 2% (speedo will read too slow).
235/45/18 would be safer (within 1%) and the speedo will read too fast instead which is better for your relationship with your local 5-0.
If you want to go that wide, 245/45/18 will be a practically dead on match for circumference.

I would go for 245/45-18 as well. That is the tire size on the 04+ LS430, which has a similar wheel well, in terms of dimensions, as the earlier LS400s. I have 235/50-18 on my 01 LS430 right now, but am planning on downsizing to 245/45-18 front || 255/45-18 rear when I change my tires (I have a staggered wheel set waiting to be put on!)

"50 series wil look chunky as hell and prolly rub at lock, too big.
go get your car aligned,"
Pure
What do you mean by "rub at lock"? Car IS aligned.Alignment was done after new rack and pinion installation about 8 months ago. There is no pulling in either direction.
Tires are defective.
DFKD -Do you experience any rubbing?
Does anybody have any experience with these tires -Toyo Proxes 4?
Thanks

I have no rubbing at all with my 225/45/18. But as I stated before, all the sizes I mentioned are really close matches so rubbing is unlikely with any of them.
The biggest wrong size I once had on was 235/55/18 (my wheels were from an RX so I had those tires from an RX on temporarily). I did have very mild rubbing inside the wheel well cover at full lock only. The 50 series ones should not touch much if at all but I'd still go with the 45 for a safer speedo reading.
