I'm back, plus question about dual filament brake light.
Hey guys,
Long time no see.. hope everything is well with you.
Just a quick question about a peculiar problem with my 1994 LS 400.
The dash light sporadically turns on that indicates a lightbulb is out (the orange icon). However, it usually does not come on when I first start the car, and when I turn it off.. and back on sometimes it goes back off.
When the icon is on, the rear driver side tail/brake light is off/out. When the icon isn't displaying that light is working fine.
Both filaments working.. when lights on it stays lit, when brakes applied it brightens. However, it sporadically (often) just goes out. Takes turning the car off to have things fix themselves, and that always doesn't do it immediately.
Has me a bit confused.
I was thinking of replacing the bulb, making sure tension is good in socket for contact, and sanding the inside of the socket for a proper contact for ground.
You guys ever heard of this? And/or have any ideas as to what might be going on?
Thanks,

Ah, thanks for the link -- not exactly my problem,.. but sounds related. I will check the harness, but I don't think I have any solder on hand. Hopefully I can open the harness and close it without needing to solder
Where have I been?
No where special.. just sort of got busy with life and neglected the forum, of course. Nothing happened in particular.
I plan on sticking around for now

Is the light in the trunk lid or in the quarter panel? In my 90, I had an intermittant problem, turned out to be a loose wire that screwed into the light assembly. You may need to remove the light assembly to check for a loose wire or possibly cracked plastic causing the socket to not make a good connection. Something is loose in there if it's not a wire in the harness.
