To settle this debate:
I raced my friend with a 1998 I30t (Maxima). He is stock except intake and has 18" Q45 rims (heavy). I'm stock. We raced off the line and I was behind until 70mph. After 80mph I was walking on him and had a car length when we shut down at 85 (residential area).

The point of my story is, if you race off the line, it wll be very close as a 96 Maxima is a little bit faster than 98 I30 (less weight and emsissions) but after 70-80 you should start gaining. My transmission ecu has never been reset so it's still in "Grandma" mode

Ok, I guess we have this one settled. Guess I was able to beat those Maximas because I am moded. I should try it all again and see how it goes.

It's 20 seconds not 12 seconds.

Resetting your ECU only puts everything back to Factory OEM specs. It won't make your car any faster.

If you have the driver-adaptive ECT-i transmission, then resetting the ECU (e.g. disconnecting the battery) merely "unlearns" your driving habits. Which means this would only help if you drove like a granny for most of the time. If you drive hard all the time, and then reset the ECU, then you're back to square one again in having to retrain the transmission to your 'rocket racer' driving habits.

You have the standard ECT transmission with the Normal/Power switch, so the above won't apply to you. Just leave it on power mode, which ups the shift points.

My tranny behaves the same in granny mode and power mode. RPM's in any mode change at max.

listen guys......dont compare those track times or anything. Those are just numbers. I dont care how accurate they are. I am a factory LS with 18's and i took a 01-02 the new shape maxiumas....infact i met up with another guy with a white one n raced him off the stop light just two lights from 0-45...and i had him a good car length....those maximas arent a challenge for us LS4 guys belive me.......RACE ONE ON UR OWN AND TELL ME THE RESULTS

Yup, if they're really accurate and your car is slower, then they must be ignored. What do those professionals know about driving anyways? This kind of stuff should really just be left to teenagers on city streets.

Ok, you did not race a 2002 Maxima. A stock auto 2K2 runs a 14.5-14.6 quarter mile and a 90 LS is a very high 15. On top of that, compare your 7.5-8 sec. 0-60 time to Maximas 6.3 sec. These are not magazine times but rather times as actually tested at the track by people that I know. A friend of mine ran a 14.3 in a bone stock 2002 6-speed Maxima. Now an automatic 2000/01 (same body style as 2002) could be very close to the LS depending on the driver so that is the one you raced.

And fusi0n 1er , I forgot to mention one thing, if your friend has a 5-speed manual, you will get walked hard period! A 5-speed 96 runs 14.8-15.2 1/4 mile stock and 0-60 in about 6.6 sec.

The only LS 400 model that would be able to take maximas easy are the 98-00 models with the vvti engines. These LS400 models are about a tenth slower than the GS400's or identical too.

This is stock vs stock that is.

The 95-97 LS400 models would be a good match for the Maxima as they are in very close range in 0-60 and 1/4 times.

As for the 90-94 LS400 models they might have a slight edge in the top end,but thats it. But the Max will be way quicker off the line for sure.

but then again if the other person cant drive it doesnt really matter what times the LS and Max are suppose to run.

you know whats funny.. i saw mark(GS 400) race a 2002 maxima from 70 mph to 120 mph and at the end of the race he only had 1/2 a car on the maxima.. and that maxima wasn't even broken in yet..

so are you saying that your LS is faster than a GS 400?

i see you live in the bronx.. i live in CT.. if you would like to setup a race between my lowly 97 5spd .. you know the slow ones with the 190 hp.. or even Marks GS 400.. since you beat a 2002 Maxima easily.. you should be able to beat mark's GS 400 into the ground..

I am in CT.. if you want to set anything up.. email me.. dougpcs_2000@yahoo.com
