Help with 1997 LS 400 audio
Hey everyone,
I have a 1997 LS 400. I love the car. I want to install a new 8" sub in the same factory spot. I also understand that i will need a new amplifier. Can someone tell me a good setup? Like what sub to use and what amp to use? And will all my other components still function as normal? It has Nakimachi. I can spend up to prlly $300 on the amp and sub but would prefer less.
Thanks,
Aaron

Can i see some other set ups ppl have too, cuz i cant find those online. Also can i hook up a dual 2 ohm JL sub or would that mess it up cuz the ohms are wrong.

i'm not going to make product recommendations as it's been covered 1,000,000 times.
what i will comment on:
since the nakamichi system sends a low level signal from the headunit (what amps generally like to see) i would not use a converter. rather, you can just splice the speaker wires into an rca plug and go straight into the amp (i can make this for you if you cannot diy).
impedance is relative to what the amp can hadle and the power your amp makes at what resistance. the "2 ohm rule" is for those who are retaining the factory amplifier and can be disregarded with an aftermarket amplifier.
fyi, the jl *ib4 series has been discontinued for a while. ebay and audio forums are where you might find them.

correct. just make sure the amp is going to provide the correct amount of power at the ohm load and take into consideration that unless the sub is marketed as "free air" power handling will decrease substantially. at the same time headroom is good, using a lower gain setting with more power on tap to achieve the same power output will keep the signal clean.
