Default Power steering fluid?

I will be doing a full power steering flush this weekend, and I just wanted to clarify, exactly what type of fluid to use, for the 1st gen LS400.

I've seen people recommending Dexron 2, 3 and even 4 ATF fluid. Are they all the same?

Also, what is the difference between regular power steering fluid and Dexron ATF fluid?

Is that the same as Toyota T IV?

If you are going to do a FULL flush(reservior, rack, lines etc), then that number may be close to correct. Never hurts to have extra if you need it. Can always use it for drain/fill on trans.

You're off the ball Joe.

Och, Dexron III is the replacement for D-I/II iirc.

There's no harm in using T-IV.

So I'm planning to do transmission and power steering flush next weekend, damn I'm gonna need lots of that T-IV. Looks like I'm gonna need about 16 bottles, and they are like $7 per bottle at the dealer.

personally, i'd use the spec designated, T-IV isnt better or worse than DexronIII spec fluid, it's just different.

T-IV is available at a Toyota dealer for like 4.99 a quart. I was told that the total capacity of the PS system on a 1st Gen was 2.1 quarts. Why are 7 quarts needed to flush it?

I used Mobil1 Synthetic ATF for the PS. It states on the bottle that its Dexron compliant.
