Kansas,
You are correct my mistake it was a 79' not 89'.
I always thought the 450 SEL was such a nice ride. Not as much power as the LS400, but for the times it was pretty good. I believe it utilized Bosch fuel injection & had smooth power deliver.
Yes, I'll keep the tire size to perserve the cushy ride. The wheels were a dealer option my dad got. Not bad looking, not the best looking..but I like them better than the OEM alloys.

Since Amskeptic posted a photo of his 78 Mercedes 450SEL, I thought I should hunt down, scan and post a photo of the 1973 450SEL I drove waaay back in the 1970s.
Yep, that's me in the photo in 1979 -- with "white guy Afro" but no gold chains -- parked in front of my now-wife's apartment building. Hey, don't laugh, it was the 70's!
1973 was the first year the 450SEL and short wheelbase 450SE were sold in the U.S. and the only year they had the same small front and rear bumpers that were on Euro-spec models. The long wheelbase 450 like I had was fairly rare in 1973.
If I remember correctly, the sticker price on my 73 450SEL when new was a hair over $16,000. After all these years, it is still my favorite of all the cars I"ve owned.

Nice and clean LS400. Love it when you find an older persons car with low miles. My grandma gave us her 96 ES300 back in 2007 with 26,000 miles on the clock. Car now has over 100,000 since it was used as our "freeway flyer" to go between Los Angeles and San Diego. There are still a few older Lexus with low mileage out there. I see them once in a while on autotrader or craigslist.

'97 Coach Edition came with the '98-'00 style wheels, but painted vs. machined alum finish. Attached is a pic of my previous '97 Coach Ed. that I owned from '00-08. I ditched the painted wheels in favor of the '98 wheels.
If all goes well, tomorrow I'll be picking up another '97 Coach Ed. Same color. Very clean 100K mile car. Only it has some hideous chrome 16" std LS wheels that gotta GO!
You gotta change out those wheels! I'm considering the 16/17/18" LS430 wheels for my LS if the deal goes through tomorrow.
Congrats again on your new ride...

Here's a pic of my newly acquired LS400 that I bought 10 days ago. It's a '97 Coach Edition with 100,300 miles. I didn't get the same smokin' deal as the OP, but I paid $7200 for the car and another $440 for 2002 LS430 wheels, tires, and lugs which I found locally on Craig's List.
