93 ls interior cleanup problem
I spilled a syrupy drink on the black shift indicator plastic and the walnut center console on a trip. I decided to mop it up, then wait untill I could clean it properly at home.
The wood cleaned up fine, but I made the mistake of cleaning the black plastic is the shift area ( in the center console where the shift **** and the ECT switch is and it has P N D R) with isopropyl alcohol, and it seems to have partially removed the black coating on this plastic. It turned the washrag black, and it looks spotty, smudgy and sloppy now.
To your knowledge, can this be effectively cleaned up or fixed? If not, is this one of those rare, super expensive replacement parts? I have to admit I don't even know what this part is called.

Sharpie? Have you tried this? How does the finish look? Ink doesn't rub off on everything that touches it? Thinking about it, it might not be that different a surface from the one I scrubbed off.
Do you know the part# for a replacement bezel or where one can be found? I am replacing my stereo this year, I might replace it them when the dash is apart.
At this time I am also going to replace the walnut trim around the shifter with a custom cut and finished piece of African mahogany or maybe rosewood. I will likely sell off the walnut piece then--its in great condition. Did I see a new one is $550? What a joke, my neighbor is making a custom one for $80.

If it doesn't work, you can find used parts either here or on Ebay, Craigslist etc. Or even at your local salvage yard. Should not be too expensive to replace.
Unless you buy one from the stealership, of course.

I did the same thing several years ago trying to clean that area on my 93 LS. If I remember correctly, I was using Xenit cleaner. The paint in that area is apparently very fragile. I just left it as is. The damage was not really apparent.
Any cleaning that anyone does in the shifter area should involve a very weak cleaner.
