Question 92 ls 400

can anyoneone help me out on what i think is the transmission jerking at 45 miles an hour.when i start my car in the morning i do hear a slight whining from what appears to be the torque converter.the fluid is full and was changed recently with filter.problem occured even before then.what would cause this?solinoid in tranny?bad torque converter?does it need a tranny flush?also has a bad vibration but i havent checked the tranny mount yet.could an engine malfunction cause the car to jerk like that?the only way to fix it temporarily is to pull over and disconnect the battery terminal for a few seconds and then its fine untill i drive over speeds of 45mph for a few miles. i replaced the computer, tps, fuel filter.?????????????????:im sick of my body shop friends telling me what the problem is and there all wrong.lolhelp

:You changed the fuel pump too? Well, i'm experiencing something similar but not as bad. I have a '92 ls4 too. I had a trans flushed and my next steps are to change the fuel filter, get new trans and engine mounts. If fuel filter job doesn't do it then the fuel pump is next. I know that the shell 93 octane is good for my car. It runs really well with that gas. I don't use any other gas. A Lexus diagnostics tech drove my car and told me that i needed a new fuel filter (and at worst a new fuel pump). So I'll see, but i know it's not anything major. Hopefully this helps. God bless.

Mine does this too (1991 LS400 224K miles). It dont have that whine though unless its cold out, or the car is not fully warmed. Its like there is "slack" somewhere between 35-50 mph on light acceleration as the grade of the road changes. I was told it could be the throttle body needs to be cleaned. I thought it was the tranny mount, but I replaced that and it still does it. Motor mounts are shot too, but not sure if thats the problem.

Knowing my luck and the luck I have had, it would not suprise me if it was something major like the torque converter. I bought the car when it had 205K... it has 224K now and its did this ever since I have owned it.

ya mine whines only when its first started or until it warms up too.i cleaned my throttle body and still didnt solve the problem.torque converters are cheap if u know the right people.and as well as u used tranny or pretty much any lexus parts.i work at a body shop and get great deals at junkyards.so check with friends at local garages and have them order what u need if you find the problem.cant wait til morning to see what transmission shop comes up with.

i brought it to firestone auto in n.y. they probably just used regular tranny fluid. the total came to $90.00 for filter and fluid.if i go back and ask them if they used toyota fluid they will probably lie to me.lol.how crucial is it to use toyota fluid?and is it possible it might need a flush?thanks

i just told you. it needs a full flush with T-IV, the fluid alone for which will approach $100.

it will cause slipping and misshifting among other things, such as tearing the guts of the trans to bite sized crunchy little pieces.

Lexus trans. are VERY sensitive to fluid type and the wrong one will cause the slippage you are experiencing. As PD said, ONLY Toyota tranny fluid should be used in these cars. I can GUARANTEE that the Firestone place you took the car to, unless you took them the fluid, DID NOT use the fluid and will even try to tell you that the different fluid use will make no difference. WRONG!!!! Full flush with the toyota fluid is a must at this point.
