Question Best replacement tire for LS400?

I am getting ready to replace the tires on my '97 LS400, I am going with the stock size (16"), looking for recommendations on a smooth, quiet ride.

Thanks,

Sean in Tampa

Which model Turanza do you prefer?

There are several listed:

Turanza Revo
Turanza LS with H-, V- or Z-speed
Turanza LS T rated
Turanza T

I had dunlops (T6000?) put on by the dealer, they were sticky but wore out fast so I went with an old favorite, Michelin Energy MXV4 Green X 235/60V16.

A couple of other points, I went with a wider (235 v. 225) tire on stock rims with no ill effects, only an improvment in handling. I also upgraded the speed rating but got a slightly noisier ride.

Yokohama Avid Touring 225/60/16. They're only S-rated (112 mph) so not recommended for very high speeds but are extremely smooth and whisper quiet. On top of that, they have a ridiculous 620 tread wear rating and sell for only $53 each new!!! I think this is the quietest tire on the market period. I think I'm going to get me a set instead of my almost new pirelli P4000 touring's.

I'm not really interested in a speed rating less than H as I tend to drive my LS400 a bit faster than the average owner.

What about the Avid V4, seems reasonable in price @ $87/ea. delivered?

There's also the Yok AVS dB that looks interesting.

A guy at TireRack recommended the Bridgestone Turanza H Revo for my LS if a smooth, quiet ride was my priority.

My experience with my 96 LS (sold): Yokohama AVS dBs were great during the first 5000 miles but developed noise after that. Comfy and bites good. Check the tirerack website and owners have similar complaints.

I bought a set of Dunlop SP Sport 5000 for my GS (also highly recommended for the LS). Very quiet and not too expensive. Good grip, too. Don't know if it would develop noise in the future as I only have less than 5K on them now. No such problems are evident in the tirerack owners reviews.

If I were to buy again for the LS, I would get the Dunlops. Make sure you get the VR and not the ZR for an even comfy ride if you were to get the Dunlops.

Default your tires

i have tried many different tires on my car. i have also ran my car to circuit and drag racing. i leared that sticking with fatory tires is the best for LS cars. i really like sp4000. these tires are great in performance and it's very stable on snow or rain at 100+mph.

i have gone 150mph with sp4000 and it felt solid.

please do not try this.

Well, I have been looking at tires for the last couple of days ( had my fill! ). Decided to go with the BS Turanza LS-V. Short list had SP 5000s, Mich XSE's again, and a late comer was Toyo FZ4 (not avail in 60).

Will post some opinions for others to use.

I'm not sure that I understand you, so please bear with me. You're saying that you've tried many different tires on your LS400 and you road race and drag race it?? And you find that the OEM tires work best?

You didn't read my original post. I said I am looking for a replacement tire that will yield aa smooth, quiet ride. I don't plan on running my LS400 on any road courses or dragstrips, it's more of a luxury car, yeah?

dude,

He is telling his experiences and he still sticks to factory tires. Take it for what it's worth.
