Default Snapped bolt head off Drive belt tensioner

Anyone else dumb enough to have done this?

I should have checked before doing it. Yes I am slightly retarded.....

What's the best way to go about getting that bolt out? Is it reverse threaded?

I removed the accessory belt tensioner by removing the two 12mm nuts and a bolt. Whole thing out outta there. I think you want to replace the assembly.

Hope what comes out easy enough?
The whole asembly? Or the bolt stump?

Two nuts and one bolt and the whole tensioner assembly is in your hand. Get another one. Put on the one bolt and the two nuts, and get back on the road.
Quit hoping and get moving on it.

Its will be easy to get the assembly out, and then you can use a bolt extractor to repair it, or just buy a new one. Probably best to get a new assembly.

I hear ya.

I'll probably end up doing that but if I can avoid spending $$ this time of year, I'll most likely try haha.

Nevermind. Have any of you guys actually taken this tensioner bracket out on your own? Like seriously?

Like you betcha. . . and it was so much fun I could not stop myself:

Honestly, don't freak yourself out. Just remove the junk that is in the way, take it out, replace, and put all the junk that was in the way back on the engine. Seriously. A couple of 10mm 12mm and 14mm wrenches, a couple of screwdrives, and most of this engine falls apart in your lap.

I mean, yeah, I've done it but my alternator doesn't look anywhere near as nice as yours so I'm a little pensive about sharing my experiences with the drive belt tensioner.

Just go to rockauto.com and get a new one for like $30, the springs lose tension after time anyway

Heading for Atlanta tomorrow from here in Austin TX , then up the seaboard to New Yawk. Boston is supposed to greet me with snow. I praaaay that this engine behaves with nary a complaint.
Need:
*two door buffer stops (little black rubber cones that pop into the trailing edges of all doors to soften the closing
*a correct high (left) horn,
(I have a '90 bleat style stuck in there, the right (low) horn is a trumpet)
*front door lock actuators
*plastic retainer for right cladding aft of front wheel arch (stupid piece of plastic that slides into the retainer groove that pops into the metal of the fender to keep the cladding below the bright moulding flush with the side of the car, no biggie)
*CD changer for experiment
*inside photochromatic mirror? (mine is perfect in the cold now)

So what's the minimum you have to take off?

I know the alternator has to come off for sure.
