It sounds like it needs a good cleaning, flush, and bleed.

So, your PS system is not leaking or 'whining'? Maybe you have a vacuum leak and the increased vacuum is slightly compensating.

The whining is air in the system. I'm pretty sure there's threads, and also stated in the stickies, how to clean everything up and fix your intermittent steering problems.

I took the valve out when I replaced my power steering pump. And my steering feels excellent.

Default cleaning the TB

I glad that I keep up on the forums on this site. Just changed the plugs and after reading about the TB on this site, I decided to clean mine, since I already had a lot of the stuff off already. It was in bad shape and cleaning the gunk off the main flapper was a major job.

This question is directed at all those who have cleaned their throttle bodies. Did you see an increase in gas mileage? I'm considering doing this over the next few weeks once school is out. In the meantime, can I spray TB cleaner in one of the three vacuum hoses that goes into the top of the throttle body?

The deposits on mine were thick and took some time and work to get off. Others are indicating the same thing. You may be the lucky oddball, but wouldn't you rather just be sure it's clean?

My milage seems to have improved but I also swapped in a manual transmission. So too many variables to consider my results.

Default TB cleaning and other maint.

I finished up the TB re-install, added new plugs and air filter. My performance has greatly improved! Too early to tell if mileage has increased. I have, however, acquired a slight
sputering on start up that lasts for a minute or two on my lst daily start up, then goes away. Any idea what I have missed?

Also just had the TB cleaned, it was real bad like many have been saying here. Also replaced the coolant temperature sensor.

Car runs great now.

Next morning though, I noticed a power steering leak started.

i followed the lexls guide to disassemble and clean the throttle body
i picked up a 95 ls400 and has 185k miles. I"m pretty sure the throttle body has never been clean
there is a pretty good amount of build up
it took me a good hour to degrease and get all the carbon build up off the back of the throttle body
now the car runs so much smoother

+1 for the guide
