Looking to buy this LS but has a problem. The guy just had the timing belt done in December. Said it ran fine for @ two weeks. Now it starts hard and runs like crap (really bad) Seems to be backfiring through the intake. Give it gas it wants to die, do it slow and easy rpms will go up but still not running right. Nice car great price but kind of scared to purchase. I already own a 1993 and looking to buy this one if not to tough to fix for my son.

Simple, the belt jumped a tooth or two. Luckily its a non interference engine, so just check the timing belt and see what could've caused it to jump. Perhaps he didn't install it right to begin with, or maybe idler pullers or water pump pulley froze, or maybe even the tensioner is loose.

I recently had a similar problem my lexus 1991 started cutting out and barley running and had to limp home I use K&N air filters and I remembered that the air mass flo sensor gets dirty so I bought a can of MAS cleaner took apart the air filter and sprayed the air mass sensor let it dry and the car runs like a rocket this may not be your problem but it sounds a little like the problem I had. I was told just using a regular air filter the sensor gets dirty and it is easy to clean I just cleaned my 06 camry sensor it made a world of difference with only 42,000 miles on it. Here is a tidbit from a tech who works at lexus he told me to look down between my radiator and air condition condensor I took back the foam and found 2-3 inches of junk he said the older lexus will collect leaves and other junk down there and he was correct. I have 234,000 miles on my lexus it a sales car and get 40k driving a year on CA freeways and cleaning out the junk will help in the summer heat for both the AC and engine temp!!!!!
Well, I purchased the car and flatbedded home. After an hour or so checking timing etc. Found out the rotor on left bank was 180 off. flipped around, cars runs great. almost feel guilty now. What a steal of a deal.
Thanks all.....
