Gas mileage...good-bad (The Mother thread)

This last loop to central Ca of 721 miles I averaged out to 20.8. It didn't help sluging through Santa Barbara with the 101 shut down. My return yesterday evening the Friday of X-mas, the traffic backed up from Calabasis all the way till Monrovia, some 40 miles. I had the car in 2'nd gear most the way doing maybe 15 MPH. That was an excruciating experience.
My usual mix in town is now about 17-18 MPG.

Right now my car is not doing so well with the mileage/gas ratio. I think my car is giving me somewhere in between 15-18 miles/ gallon of gas. I think is because my lazy a$$ don't hurry up and replace spark plugs and wires. That's probably the reason for poor gas mileage in my car.

The last half year, I noticed gas mileage has dropped about 5-10%. I dunno if this goes along with the change in gas formulations...alcohol or that so called emission reduction additive.

I get 18-23mpg in my 94 LS, depending on how much city/hwy driving I do (23mpg with 95% highway). You get really crappy mileage driving in SF.
For the people getting 25+ in 1gen LS's, that's pretty amazing.

A few days ago I filled up my tank. It took a little over 21 gallons. I got 513 miles out of that tank of gas. I consistiently run the car until the low fuel light comes on. I have to agree on the accuracy of the fuel guage. It is amazing. When the light comes on you've got about 4 gallons of gas left. For me, that basically means I can drive about 80-100 miles before refueling. Call me lazy, but I see no reason in refueling prematurely. I've had my car for over 5 years and have never had any issues with the fuel pump/dirty injectors/sludge/etc. Oh yeah, and that's using 87 octane. I have found that my fuel gauge is actually very inaccurate. When I fill the tank (and I know it's full for sure), it never goes above 3/4 on the gauge. After driving for 150 miles, the next day when I start the car the gauge will be at below empty. After warming up for about 10 minutes, it will go up to 1/4, even though it should now be at about 3/4.
So basically I have to go by mileage to figure out when to fill the tank.

I don't know how you guys are doing that city driving where your getting upwards of 15 to 18mpg. I have an '00 ls400 that recently had a major 90k service from Lexus and I'm only getting 9 - 11 mpg driving here in Brooklyn, NY with a pretty mild winter. Are you guys using some high octane jet fuel or somthing else?? lol

If you aren't just stomping the gas and brake, I'd take it back to the dealer and say they need to address the poor gas mileage issue. Find it and fix it.
At sea level, using premium gas, you should be getting much better than that.
