I thought it would be worth sharing my LS400 find:
In 96 I purchased a 90 ls400 with 6500 miles on it. The car originally belonged to Andre Previn and was supposedly part of his compensation for composing the music for the introductory Lexus commercials. About a month after purchasing the car, I noticed a ticking noise coming from the front end as I turned the wheel sharply to either side. The lexus dealer diagnosed it as a bad “rack” in the rack and pinion steering to be replaced and would cost ~2500 . The service manager added that the seals on the rack where dried and cracked and that the low mileage was very likely a contributor this occurring. At this point the diagnosis was not entered into the Lexus central computer. I then walked right over to new sales department and negotiated a good trade in deal on a new 96LS. If I could be assured that the rack was the only issue I would have related to the low miles, I may have kept the car, but the service manager lead me to believe that other seals may have been damaged and that the symptoms may not show right away.

I hope your LS400 find works out better than mine did. So far it looks like it has.

The only problem I've had so far is a code for a bad gas cap. Changed it and all is well (knock on wood).

I figured I should replace some dried out rubber while I was under the car, so replacement strut rod bushing and tranny mount are in order. Rear shocks arrived as well.

Very nice find. If you want to sell the OEM struts I would be interested.
The progress is fun to watch.
