Pulling the plugs will tell if there is fouling occurring. If the plugs are clean might do a compression check on the cylinders. If it's reading even and with little to no oil consumption, the motor is still tight. If the tranny and rear end have seen regular drain intervals...even better.

225K miles seems pretty average for nearing end of service but if the car has seen good maintenance schedules, it will go longer.

You've gotta tell us the year of the car, certain years come with certain problems. I have a '96 LS with 211k and I'm sure it will go alot longer. Even if the trans goes or motor goes I'll replace with good salvaged parts as I do all of my own repairs and the body is in such good shape. You have to ask yourself exactly what "without repair" means. If you mean big ticket items like trans and motor failures then 225 isn't bad at all. Toyota tends to overbuild their cars and that typically allows them to run much longer. Maintenance is key, like said above. Expect to deal with some power steering issues and other smaller repairs. The car is great if you are somewhat good at wrenching as you'll learn the car very well and feel confident about fixing most anything that goes wrong with it. If you take your car in for all repairs you may expect it to become a money pit at times. For instance, my A/C compressor and evaporate core were leaking and a shop wanted $2,100 to fix it. I fixed it for $200 and it's been great for over a year. If you put down some coin on parts and replace alot of common maintenance parts you'll be off to an awesome start. Things like: timing belt, water pump, front crank and cam seals, plugs, wires, caps, rotors, trans filter and flush, power steering flush, brake fluid flush, PCV valve, clean PPS solenoid screen on steering rack, and things like that you'll be in a good position as long as poor maintenance from the past hasn't already damaged something.

With good regular maintainance it may easily double that distance. You may have issues, but the driveline is quite bulletproof and the build quality of the LS400 is second to none.
This is the very reason for me choosing a '95 with some 130K over an Audi A8 or BMW 740 with similar distance on the dial. The Lexus is simply a better built car.
