gap betwen tire and fender is because your tires are too small. for that height, i'd go with a 275 40 18 rear and 235 45 18 front.

Well this is good to know that it might be as easy a fix as changing the tyres over!
I'm currently running a 8j front, a 245 will be too wide for this won't it? Its 9.5j on the rear so 245 should be OK as long as I'm not going to have issues with arch clearence?

The tread has to be covered by the arch.... not sure if that the same law over there? But I would deffinately have problems with that with a 275 on the rear!

they don't make a big deal about that here. in that case, try a 265 in the rear. the 245s will be fine on the fronts.
