My mechanic said it was shot and he's trustworthy... I'm going to wait for a bit to do it. I'm doing both UCA's and the timing belt this week...

There is no gasket... it appears you use RTV

The steering is ok except it can develop a pretty nasty wobble from time to time so it's time to replace those which I would like to have him do. I feel I can take on the timing belt job myself, I've done an e30 BMW (which was a snap) and a gen2 Taurus SHO (horizontally opposed is SUCH a pain).. Two problems though,

1) I'd like to buy the timing belt stuff as a kit to make sure I get everything I need, should I just call sewell and have put it together for me?

2) My mechanic can't find upper ball joints nor a steering stabilizer after market. I'm pretty sure the P/N for the steering stabilizer is 45700 but I don't see the ball joint (I don't really know what I'm looking for). I've never done suspension stuff so I'm a little lost...
You can do the whole thing yourself! Ball joints are super easy. Steering stabilizer is absurdly easy. Timing belt is also easy, just tedious. Make absolutely sure you do the cam and crank seals while you've got the car under the knife. If your plug wires are original, get new OE Toyota ones. If you don't want to pay Sewell's high prices (even with the CLUBLEXUS coupon code), you can try Lexus of Pembroke Pines' Trademotion storefront.

Thanks... I have everything pulled together... I may do cap/rotor now while I'm in there if I can find a set locally but I'm going to wait on plugs/wires and just do those on another weekend... maybe when I do my stereo install

i agree, if you're comfortabel with a t belt job, then the suspension stuff is cake. lexus susp is very easy to work on.

Alright, I picked up the car, most of the vibration is gone.... now for the tbelt. I did grab caps/rotors and all the seals... BTW: is black silicon RTV that comes with the front crank seal good enough for the water pump gasketing?

So getting this far into the engine I'm going to do plugs wires... can anyone give me a reason other than a knee jerk not to use autolite wires? the car has 215k and I paid 1900 for it. I'd get the beck/arnley stuff but it's 3 days out and this is my DD parked in my parents garage.... they have OE Denso plugs in stock...

and the black stuff came with the front crank seal but it's not OE toyota...

I'm actually short a few as they have fallen into the bumper area etc.... I need to go pick a couple up... I fired it up without the intake/acc belt/cooling system (about 5 seconds) and it sounded perfect... so it seems I did it right the first time... I did screw up 2 front crank seals installing them... good thing I bought 2 after screwing up the first one...
