I hope that I am not hijacking this thread in anyway, but my 1995 ES300 has gotten louder over the past year or so. I asked my shop to take a look, and they said that there is a hole in the system somewhere and some mount/flange had corroded through. They recommended installing a new system and quoted $750-900. Does that seem like a fair price? (Obviously, the work must involve more than just replacing a muffler).

Right, I'll have to get more detail. I remember that they said that they'd have to replace everything back to the XXXXX, but I can't remember what XXXXX was! I'll find out.

OK, thanks. I'll find out exactly where the hole is and then see if I can get away with swapping in a new pipe. Then again, my car has 160,000 miles on it, and all the other parts are probably rusting through anyway!

yea go check that out first.

of course the shop will recommend getting "new" so its easier for them to put it on, and to make money off of you.

OK, quote is $695 for everything from the end of the converter back. So, I guess that means resonator, muffler, some pipe....

If I really like what my car sounds like now with just the muffler delete but want better flow what can I do. I do NOT want it any louder. When I was under there the other day it looked like the restriction happened most after the center resinator there was what looked like a 2 3/4 inch pipe that Y'd to the two other resinators. After the Y the pipe really necked down to the 2 inch pipe and then out of that muffler was 2 also. Would it help at all to run 2 1/4 from the y to the next two resinators and then run 2 1/4 from there to the tips at the bumper? Oh and I was thinking headers, or is that a waste without a full system?

what's the point of headers if the rest of the exhaust is a restriction...

2.25in pipe from the cats back, with an x-pipe is the way to go imho.
