I don't understand. That cat would replace the OEM one in it's original location (45 deg. angle from header)- with the flanges welded on. It's shorter than OEM therefore raising it further away from any potential hazard. No?

the cat w/attached bend is only really worth it if its short enough that you'll bottom out on the frame before the exhaust, so you'd need to take measurements of the stock space to see if its do-able.

Good luck on this - I tried having a muffler shop to change mine. They would not touch it stating that it was a violation to move the O2 sensor. Every shop, even the little guys would not cut into that section while the did remove center cats and resonators from there back.

OK. Just got back from a local exhaust shop. This is what they suggested to do.
Cut the flange off the bottom of the cat and weld a new piece of mandrel bent pipe to it and add a new oxygen sensor bung. Like this:

This would join the centre pipe to the cat for good but I don't see a downside to that.

They said they've never been able to figure out the purpose of the circled piece. The weld is also letting loose at the arrow which will cause an exhaust leak. They don't think its a necessary piece and have suggested to not replace it.

Any thoughts?

think its to keep vibration and rattling down.

1) no it wouldn't. the angle is already made with 2 pieces of straight pipe and would be exactly the same just in a higher location (my illustration lacks the 3d detail but come on... use your head).

2) pay to play. sometimes you have to comprimise to be low. hp is the least of my concerns personally.

Ive lost both of these round things on the freeway, in the same spot. anyway. wondering if these missing would cause the driveshaft to be disrupted.... causing a wheel shimmy

These are a part of the exhaust system and not the driveshaft so im pretty sure it has nothing to do with it. Dont have any idea why you think it would.
