Figured this would be the fastest place to get an answer. I recently ordered some new tail lights for my 98 LS400 and I finally received them today. I went and removed my old lights and as I go about mounting the new ones I realize they don't fit. Now I know there is a difference between the 95-97 LS400 and the 98-00 but I'm no sure which is longer than the other. Here is a pic for reference. Top trunk light is the "stock one" and bottom one is the new led light:


Kind of hard to tell due to the angle but the top one is longer by about an inch. My question is, which LS years came with short lights and which came with the longer ones? It's possible I was sent the wrong ones or my car's trunk was replaced with an older LS400 trunk

'98-'00 had longer inners and '95-'97 had shorter inners.

also, when you mount them up, the 95-97 tails wont align right with the corners on a 98-00.

dang.. sorry to hear that they don't fit.. i thought bout swapping trunks since the 95-97 tails are cheaper.. hopefully you can get them exchanged..

Actually, the 95-97 lights won't even mount up on the trunk.
Seems like it would cost more to buy a trunk and get it painted to match than to just buy the 98+ lights but I don't know the cost of the 95-97 lights. I should be able to get them swapped out. It's jsut the waiting time that bothers me.
