That really sounds like a huge vacuum leak somewhere, maybe on the intake pipe, after the MAF. Maybe the clamps arent on tight?
And yea, lol, that stupid light that is supposed to look like a radiator always looked like a bird cage to me... first saw it when I had my Supra. I didnt know what it was so I just googled Toyota Bird cage Light
